Planned or unplanned caesarean birth, you can still have an incredible experience! When I talk about influencing birth, I’m not just talking about vaginal birth! I’m talking about ALL births. Everything I teach applies to every birth! How we approach caesarean birth can make a difference to our birth experience and our recovery! Oxytocin is still key and you have all the options babe!
“We welcomed our 2nd babe via planned caesarean due to him being breech. It was my 2nd C-section and I had a lot of anxiety as the first experience was pretty traumatic for a number of reasons. This was amazing and everything I wanted, calm, positive and all the euphoria. We got super lucky and had the same midwife as with my daughter, she’s incredible and really advocates for women. She kept checking if I was okay and was there anything else I needed to make it nice. I felt so taken care of. The spinal was such a different experience and went in instantly (I think it helped that I focused on being relaxed, relaxed face and shoulders 🙌🏼). I had my playlist playing and I stayed really calm and in the moment. Once the spinal was done they did all the checks and not long after my baby boy was born. I had requested immediate skin to skin so whilst he was still attached to the cord for delayed cord clamping he was held so close to my partner and I so we got a really good look at him, then straight onto me for skin to skin when it was cut. Such a euphoric moment having him on me, and feeling so positive about it all. As soon as we got into recovery I asked to be sat up properly and I got him latched and he fed for the whole hour waiting to go to the ward, I wanted a minimum of 3 hours skin to skin and I got it and really established good bf. He’s so perfect and we are absolutely in love. I’m so grateful for TND for her content and guidance to advocate for myself to get what was important to me, it can be scary speaking up within the medical system but the staff all wanted to help me have this beautiful experience so highly recommend speaking up 💛”
